The Long Stitch: A simple way to make a journal

In this workshop you will learn the basics of book binding. Sandy Whiting and Susanne Newbold will be teaching the long stitch, and students will create book covers using handmade papers, collage materials, and various printmaking techniques. The books are made with 100% acid free paper suitable for pen and ink, pencil and watercolor. Perfect for writers and artists. With two teachers, there is plenty of individual instruction. Minimum class is four students. Maximum is seven. Every student will leave with a completed book.

Accordion Books Workshop

Accordion books offer a playful alternative to the traditional book. No stitching is required. You can stand them up and view all the pages at once. The book is contained in a free standing 2 sided case and can fold out into it's original accordion shape to be displayed. Each book is an original piece of art that is perfect for the coffee table or a gift. Bring photos, sketches, collage materials and create your own accordion book. We will make one book that is approximately 6"x 4". Please keep these measurements in mind when gathering your materials for the books. All other supplies for bookmaking are provided . Refresher Workshop: Photo Transfers and Bookbinding Stitches

This workshop is open to anyone who has taken a workshop with us and would like a little "refresher" on photo transfers, the 4 needle coptic stitch, the long stitch, and the Japanese stab stitch. Handmade Books: Japanese Stab Stitch Workshop

Japanese Stab Stitch Bindings are easy to learn, simple, and fun to make.The book is great for journals, sketchbooks, scrapbooks, and guest books. They also make excellent, "one of a kind" gifts. We provide all of the supplies, including many different kinds of paper and collage materials to make your book. If you have some unusual papers, you are welcome to bring them to the workshop.
This workshop is open to people at all levels of book making, from beginners to experienced. We have two instructors for this workshop so there is plenty of individual instruction. We make the the book covers using collage materials. We spend the morning making the covers and the afternoon stitching the the book. We provide written and visual instructions, and all supplies.
